I believe my 'one vote' lists; National, by State, and Other; to be the most comprehensive
listing on the internet.
Actually it is not just 1 vote but is 1 vote
over or shy of a majority, or 'super-majority'.
Any one voter of the victory tally had the power to sway the
victory to a tie or the opposition. One vote is victory among many when the many have the
majority. - Roger W Hancock.
I have included where one vote each over several precincts could have made a difference.
"A nation is only an
individual multiplied." - Mark Twain,
"The Turning-Point of My Life"
Power
of one vote. |

1875 |
FL |
1
vote elected Democrat Charles W. Jones of Pensacola to the
U.S. Senate. At that time Florida's U.S. Senators were still
elected by the state legislature. |
1885 |
FL |
1
vote elected Robert W. Davis as Speaker of the House for the
Florida House of Representatives. His opponent was defeated,
Gen. Ernest Yonge. |
1984 |
FL |
1 vote elected a Monroe County, Florida commissioner.
|
1998 |
FL |
1 vote in the
election of county commissioners in Gilchrist County, Florida,
would have prevented a recount (also a tie) and then the
determination by drawing lots. |
1999 |
FL |
1 vote in a city election in Hillsborough County, Florida,
decided one of the city council positions.
|
2000 |
U.S.
FL |
1 vote per
precinct in Florida may have made a more decisive outcome for
either, now, President Bush or, then, Vice President
Gore. Having won the electoral votes from Florida George W.
Bush won the presidency by one Electoral College vote. (271
total) |
2000 |
FL |
1 vote margin, elected Janet Hoppe to the
Indian Shores seat on the Fire District board of commissioners
in Indian Rocks, Florida, in November, 2000. |
2008 |
FL |
1 vote lost the re-election bid of Frank
Willis for Mayor of Florence, Florida in a June 10th primary.
Steven J. Wukela won the Democratic Party nomination by that
same one vote. |
