Nearly 100,000
People lose their lives by a 7.2 earthquake on
December 28th in the Straight of Messina, Italy. Most buildings and houses were
destroyed. The only house left standing was built with
reinforced concrete and iron, by a businessman the local
citizens referred to as being eccentric. The city of Reggio also
was destroyed. The tsunami that followed was responsible for
over 65,000 of the deaths and had
flooded the city with 20 to 40 foot waves followed by smaller
and smaller waves until dissipated.

start. Some hot springs increased in temperatures by 6 degrees.

The Great Chilean Earthquake of 9.5 on May 21
began a number of quakes that occured through to May 30th 2nd.
5,700 people were killed 3,000 injured and one in every three
homes were destroyed. Chile's damages were $550 million.
Both tremors had triggered its own tsunami. 3000 of the dead
were killed by the tsunamis. 500 miles of Chile's costline was
flooded by the tsunamis causing more damage and deaths than the
earthquakes. The tsunamis continued out to hit around the
Pacific Rim. In Hawaii 61 people were killed from two waves the
second wave was 20 feet high at Hilo 15 hours after the 9.5
quake. Japan saw 11 foot high waves that killed 138 people. The
tsunamis caused $500,000 damage to the United States.

The March 27th, 9.2 Good Friday Earthquake takes 131 lives along Prince
William Sound in Alaska. Most of the deaths were from the
tsunamis. 6 people were killed by the tsunami along the Oregon
and California coasts. The force was a force equal to 10 million times that
of the Atom-bomb that was used at Hiroshima. the shock waves
traveled through Canada into the United States to lift ground in
Houston, Texas and Cape Kennedy in Florida. Damages totaled $500
million.
