Turkey is hit by a
6.0 [6.2 per U.S.G.S.] earthquake that toppled buildings in the
Afyon province of Turkey on February 3rd. Being Sunday the shops
were closed which otherwise would have made the quake been
more devastating. 42 people were killed and over 150 injured.
Eight aftershocks followed, measuring up to 5.3. |

sea creating a huge "wake". |

injured. The quake destroyed 2,678 buildings, nine bridges, and
an airport runway. |

kill 14 and injures 40 people. More than 1,420 buildings

Gibraltar feels the quaking of a 6.4 earthquake on February
24th. 628 people are killed and 926 injured. 15,000 people are
made homeless in the Al hoceima-Imzourene-Beni Abdallah area

after shocks when previously weakened buildings are destroyed. |

by a 7.2 earthquake near the Coast of Western Honshu on
September 5th. Another quake of 7.4 magnitude hits the South
coast of Honshu on the same day. Both quakes are felt in Tokyo.
Tsunamis were generated by both quakes; 63 cm (2') by the 7.2 and 93
cm (3') by the 7.4 quake. |

In the
Indian Ocean a 9.15 magnitude undersea earthquake occurs off the west coast of the Indonesian island of
Sumatra on December 26th. It triggers the deadliest tsunami in
world history. The tsunami hits ten countries along the
coastlines surrounding the Indian Ocean killing 310,000 people
and leaving 1,126,900 homeless. 14,100 people are still listed
as missing. This quake was The largest since the Alaskan Prince
Willaim Sound quake of 1964 and is the world's largest
earthquake since 1960. This quake is recorded as the largest earthquake of 2004
and deadliest tsunami in recorded history.

In India, a 7.1
earthquake strikes the area of the Nicobar Islands on December
26th to be later hit by another quake of a 6.6 magnitude. A
tsunami killed 300,000 people around the Bay of Bengal. The
Moken people were saved by following their legend that warns,
when a tide recedes far and fast, run far, run fast; a
man-eating wave will soon come on shore. |

Northern Sumatra, Indonesia. Over 350 people were injured and

meters (9' 10") hit various shores. The quake was felt in India and Sri
Lanka. This is the Largest Earthquake of 2005.

13th Tarapaca, Chile is hit by a 7.8 earthquake. Eleven people
are killed and over 200 wounded. 544 houses destroyed with
another 8,900 damaged. In the Iquique area landslides occured as
a result of the quake. |

magnitude 7.5 quake destroys 70% of the homes at Lamas in
Norther Peru on September 26th. The quake kills at least 5 and
is felt into 4 countries; Peru, Brazil, Columbia and Ecuador.

More than
86,000 killed and 96,000 injured by a 7.6 earthquate in Northern
Pakistan on October 8th. Over 32,333 buildings were destroyed in
just the cities of Anantnag, Barumula, Jammu, and Srinagar. In
India 1,350 people were killed and 6,266 injured. This was the
deadliest earthquake of 2005. 400,000 people were rendered
homeless prior to the expected harsh winter of the region. |
