Amendment XII was enacted after the tie in 1800 -
In 1804 the electors began voting for President and Vice
President using separate ballots. This change ensured the Vice
President would most likely be of the same party as the
President.
- Beginning in 1848 all States hold the presidential election on
the same day in November. |

by 537 popular votes. |
V2 |
Al Gore minimized the
importance of the Clinton Scandals and avoided
Washington
Scandals and Corruption. Democrat Al Gore sought and failed to
overturn election rules to exclude the overseas military vote. |
V3 |

The term
"Hanging Chad" became the subject of jest by comedians
and the general public after the close vote, with the
problems of voting machines becoming public. The 2000
election prompted the voting reform debate that
continues past the 2004 election. |
