Columbus
Hurricane
by Roger W Hancock
Christopher Columbus, Italian
sailor,
sailed under a Spanish flag.
Columbus was the first European,
to experience a hurricane.
In fifteen-hundred-two,
on the ocean blue;
fourth voyage of Capitan,
Christopher Columbus.
Caravel of Spanish ships,
of Aztec gold for Spain.
Five hundred sailors died,
twenty ships were lost.
Gold was claimed by a hurricane,
then burried by the sea.

Captained ships from Spain to 'India';

The popularity of Columbus Day has
waned over that last twenty or thirty years as our society has
gained enlightenment on racial equality.
Christopher Columbus is blamed for the mistreatment of the
native indians. However such were the ignorance of the times.
The Spaniards were conquerers, such was the way of ancient days.
Pillage, plunder, rape; perceived rights of victory. Treasures,
found or stolen, belonged to the conquering invaders and the
King of Spain.
Though Christopher Columbus was a part of the brutal slaying of
the native people, it was he who braved the ocean dangers and
legends to discover a New World. |
