The Halloween Holiday
is celebrated on October
31st.
The observance of
Halloween has grown from pagan origins to the American observance of
candy given to children dressed in costumes. The tradition of "Trick or
Treat" from door to door on Halloween is slowly waning. Parents are
opting for Harvest Festival parties; Shopping Malls; or home parties
with friends and neighbors. Halloween "Trick
or Treat" shopping events at Shopping Malls are where mall stores offer
up candy to lure the children off the streets and the parents into their
stores. Halloween is transforming into a safe, sane and profitable
holiday.

Tip for Marketing:
Using the Halloween Trick or Treat event.
Public Relations is the primary reason the Shopping Mall Stores began
putting out candy on Halloween. It gives the Parents a safe alternative
to door to door "Trick or Treating," putting a positive impression in
the Parents mind of the participating store. Stores and businesses
should use the Halloween "Trick or Treat" events to highlight the products
they sell or plan to sell over the Thanksgiving and Christmas holidays.
Although the Halloween "Trick or Treat" events may not significantly
increase sales on that day, you have an opportunity for marketing.
Halloween displays should be designed and placed to catch the parents
and/or child's attention. Imagine the child jumping up and down when
they see the latest and favorite fad toy. "Daddy, Mommy! I want that!"
It will instill in the parents the item the child wants and where they
can return later for the purchase as a Christmas present. When your
store does not cater to children, a well designed display will provide
suggestions for presents for the adults on the Parents' Christmas
shopping list or even other items or services the Parents might need the
coming year.
The Staff member who is tending the Halloween candy can also pass out
coupons or flyers. The coupons for a later saving deal may be placed
with the candy in the child’s Halloween bag or directly handed to the
parents. You might pass to the parents a flyer highlighting your next or
biggest upcoming Christmas sale.
Since you are buying the candy and paying a staff member to tend to the
candy, you might as well maximize your exposure to the Trick or Treat
Halloween patrons, with effective marketing.
