  • February 6, 1788 - Massachusetts becomes the 6th state, ratifying the U.S. Constitution.
    Area - 9,241 sq. miles       Capital - Boston

- Massachusetts was the first colony to legalize slavery by statute in 1641.
- John Adams is born in 1735 in Quincy.  In 1797 he became the 2nd President of the United States.
- John Quincy Adams is born in 1767 in Quincy.  In 1824 he was elected the 6th President of the United States.
- In 1773 Boston citizens protest additional taxes on tea, holding the Boston Tea Party by dumping a tea shipment into the bay.
- John Hancock becomes first elected governor in 1780. The State Constitution is adopted that same year.
- In 1780 Massachusetts deny women's right to vote.

- Massachusetts, the 6th state to ratify the United States Constitution does so in February, 1788.
- Maine is separated from Massachusetts in 1820
- The fourth Constitutional amendment is adopted in 1833 to separate state from church ending government promotion of Puritanism over other denominations.
- The first National Women's Rights convenes their first Convention in Worcester, 1850.
- The Massachusetts 1854 legislature grants property rights to women.
- In 1866 Edward G. Walker and Charles L. Mitchell are elected to the Massachusetts legislature. They are the first blacks to hold office in an American legislature.
- John F. Kennedy is born in 1917 in Brookline. He becomes the 35th President in 1960.
- Governor Calvin Coolidge was
elected vice-president in 1920.
- The first women elected to the Massachusetts State Legislature were Republican Sylvia Donaldson and democrat Jamaica Plain, who both were elected to the State House of Representatives in 1920.
- Vice President Calvin Coolidge becomes The 30th U. S. President of United States in 1923.
- Edith Nourse Rogers, Republican from Massachusetts, in 1925 becomes the first woman to serve in the U. S. House of Representatives. She was the longest serving woman in House.  She introduced the GI Bill of Rights.

- Sylvia Donaldson becomes Speaker of the Massachusetts House of Representatives for a single day being the first woman to hold the honor.
- John F. Kennedy of Brookline is elected 35th president of United States in 1960.
- John F. Kennedy is assassinated in Dallas Texas in 1963.
- Edward W Brooke is the first Black U.S. Senator in 85 years when elected as a Republican from Massachusetts in 1966.

- A 1974 Federal court orders the integration of Boston public schools - Busing program integrating Boston public schools sparks white boycotts and violent demonstrations.
- In 1988 Massachusetts enacts a bill that guarantees health insurance to all state residents
- Dukakis becomes the 1988 Democratic nominee for president of the United States.
- Jane Swift replaced resigning Governor Paul Cellucci in 2001 becoming Massachusett's first woman to hold the office.
