Our Duty
by Roger W Hancock
All who serve to secure our safety,
to honor their duty is our responsibility.
Police men, women, and K9 dogs,
defending our safety, fills their logs.
The K-9 cop deserves our honor,
helping police, give them cover.
For maintaining society's civility,
it
is our duty, to honor their duty.

K-9
Rank
by
Roger W Hancock
Dogs beyond, just man's
best friend,
learn in service, best of breed.
Not just furry friend to man,
safety service for human kind.
War Dog rank in military earn,
scout reconnaissance, K-9 duty.
Police Dog rank in law enforcement,
sniffing out criminal element.
Pet, mascot, friend... not just,
bravery beyond tasks trained.
Honors due those heroes true,
dogs in duty, earn respect.

The Heroes
by Roger W Hancock
Some heroes
obvious, some unsung,
their
lives and health, tempting fate.
Vulnerable
in tasks for our civilization,
few
glories for their life’s profession.
The
Service men in our Armed Forces,
the
cause be sure for freedom’s sake.
For
their family, strangers, citizens all,
few
medals show their life’s duress.
The
policeman whose life is in peril,
by
high-speed chase, gunfight ensued.
The
simple traffic stop may kill,
few
medals show the dangers faced.
The man
who is trained as a fireman,
to save
our lives, our homes from fire.
The
first on scene when aid in need,
few
medals show each hazardous deed.
The
utilities that keep our comfort whole,
power
and phone, the men on poles.
Sewage,
garbage disposed for health,
no
recognition for the civilian fight.
The many
others whose work obscure,
performing
tasks with risks not yours.
Construction,
or the viral flu to cure,
no medals glory for the civilian
plight.

Astronaut
Tribute
Dedicated to the
crew of the Space Shuttle Columbia
Astronaut Tribute
by Roger W Hancock
Challenger, Columbia,
tributes to technology.
Tribute of man goes to…
those who risk their lives.
Techno shuttlecocks history,
heroes’ death we mourn.
We join in national grief,
with loss to family, friends.
Legacy is left, reminding us,
when forging frontier path,
unknown dangers ever lurk.
Tribute, we, a nation pay,
to astronauts now gone,
Sacrifice of life they gave,
scout the space unknown.
Anticipation, apprehension,
mixed emotions among crew.
Duty to serve, jobs at hand,
courage builds one’s nerves.
Thanks to those who prepare,
future duty their destiny.
Sacrifice debate, succumbed,
decision of elite become,
when called an astronaut.

Heroes’
Risk
Inspired by the Columbia disaster,
Dedicated to all our Astronauts.
Heroes'
Risk
by Roger W Hancock
For
all the knowledge,
for
all the care,
In
every document,
in
every blueprint;
risk
lies in every frontier.
Reaching
beyond,
beyond
our atmosphere.
Impossible
barrier,
barrier
broken.
Tests,
plans, tests,
trials
set before the plan.
Contingency
for every thought,
none,
unknown fought.
Heroes
before the deed,
such
impossible task.
National
heroes die,
the
unknown succeeds.
Back
to the drawing board,
overcome
the unknown.
Pioneers
of a new age,
break
the mountain curse.
Exploration,
risk for knowledge,
lives
on line for space crusade.
Astronauts,
our heroes,
men,
women in bravery.
Explorers
of frontier space,
scouts
of a new age.
Every
ambitious endeavor,
carries
unknown danger.
In
fortitude, in perseverance;
to
reach beyond the risk.
