Revolution from Great Britain.
- Eastern Minnesota in 1787 becomes part of the
American Northwest Territories of the United States of America.
- The 1803 Louisiana Purchase gains the western portion
of Minnesota for the United States.
- The Wisconsin Territory which includes Minnesota is created in
1836.

presidential primary of Minnesota in 1968 for his
bid for the office.
- Previously a Minnesota Senator, Vice President Hubert Humphrey
runs for president in 1968, narrowly losing to Richard Nixon.
- Warren Burger, native of St. Paul, is named to
the Supreme Court of the United States in 1969.
- Minnesotan Harry Blackmun is named in 1970 to the Supreme
Court of the United States, he later writes the majority
opinion in the Roe v. Wade case, effectively legalizing abortion.
